Coding Out Of Poverty aims to inspire and empower people from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds to pursue their passions and potential in STEM/STEAM fields. We believe that everyone deserves a chance to explore and discover the wonders of science, technology, engineering, art, and math through real-world, self-directed, and engaging learning experiences. We are committed to nurturing a new generation of creative and critical thinkers, makers, and innovative problem-solvers who can contribute to the advancement of our global society. Coding Out Of Poverty is not just teaching skills, but transforming lives through STEM/STEAM.

Our Story

As two women of color from low-income communities, we faced barriers and biases that hindered our access to STEM/STEAM education and careers. Despite being overlooked, underestimated, misunderstood, and misrepresented, we worked hard to achieve our goals and bring the voices of women like us into educational and technological spaces that otherwise would not have them. That’s how Coding Out Of Poverty (C.O.O.P.) was born. We founded this nonprofit organization with the mission to bring educational justice and equitable learning opportunities to everyone, especially those historically marginalized and systemically underserved.

We want to inspire and empower people from diverse and underrrepresented communities to discover their passions and potential in STEM/STEAM, and use their talents and skills to become the next generations positive disrupters and innovative change agents.
